#ZENDTALKS - Optimizing your Vegan Diet with Sebastian Roberts

The Answer to Vitamin B12, Iron and Protein Deficiencies::

Has anyone ever told you that you shouldn’t be a vegan, that it’s unhealthy, or even dangerous? Are you eating a plant-based diet but concerned about the repercussions? In this talk we’ll discuss (and demystify) many of the most common myths associated with vegetarian and vegan diets.

1) Protein
One of the most common misconceptions about the vegan diet is that it is difficult to get protein from plant sources. In this portion of the talk we’ll discuss how the world’s leading organizations and institutions determine the quality of protein and take an academic approach to debunking the ‘vegetarian protein myth’. We’ll also discuss the best vegan sources of protein and reveal the world’s most digestible protein (which is also vegan).

2) Iron
Iron is one of the most misunderstood nutrients in the human body. While getting significant iron into our diet is essential to human life, few people understand the complex interactions between iron and other nutrients. Deficiency in this essential mineral is often linked not to inadequate iron consumption but rather to the body’s ability to absorb the iron. During this talk we’ll focus on how to ensure the body has the nutrients necessary for iron absorption before divulging nature’s secret weapon to prevent iron deficiency.

3) Vitamin B12
Of all the criticisms of the vegan/vegetarian diet Vitamin B12 deficiency is – by far – the most academically sound. There is a strong body of evidence that suggests not eating meat leads to B12 deficiency. In order to cope with this reality, many people eating a plant-based diet have opted for mostly unproven B12 supplements and/or injections. In this talk we’ll discuss a groundbreaking article published in 2015 that has confirmed the world’s first and only known bio-available plant source to effectively treat Vitamin B12 deficiency in a randomized double-blind study.
